Inside Design

Where ideas take shape: in 2D, 3D, in code and in the real world.
9:30am–2:30pm | Up to 80 students

Inside Design gives students the tools, software and creative challenges used across architecture, product design, digital media and engineering. From 2D design, 3D modelling to testing ideas in real time, every workshop is a new medium, a new challenge and a new way of thinking.

Workshops
Students rotate through workshops in small groups.

  • 2D Creations: Students race through the design thinking process to design, prototype and make their own badge or sticker. One idea in, one real product out.
  • 3D Creations: Students sculpt and refine an idea in 3D modelling software, then watch their design come to life on the 3D printer.
  • Infinite Art: Students explore fractals, the geometry behind coastlines, galaxies and ferns, and turn pure mathematics into gallery-quality artwork to take home.
  • Windforce: Students prototype, test and re-test designs in vertical wind tunnels, learning to build fast, fail fast and improve every version.

Details

Duration: 75 minutes

Capacity: 20 students

  • Apply the design thinking process from brief to finished product
  • Use industry CAD and 3D modelling software
  • See how mathematics and art connect through fractals
  • Test and refine designs against real-world forces
  • Make a product they take home

  • Design and Technologies:

    • VC2TDE8D02 (generate, test, iterate and communicate design ideas)
    • VC2TDE8D03 (safely make designed solutions)
  • Visual Communication Design:
    • VC2AVC8C02 (apply visual language to present solutions for an audience)
  • Visual Arts:
    • VC2AVA8C01 (select and manipulate visual conventions to create artworks)
  • Mathematics:
