Wear enclosed shoes — these are a safety requirement in the laboratory and students without them will not be able to participate. Bring your own lunch and water bottle. Everything else will be provided.
Casey Tech School is opening its doors this July for an exclusive two-day program designed for VCE Biology and Chemistry students. This isn't a repeat of what you've done in our programs — it's a chance to get hands-on with professional-grade laboratory equipment and techniques that VCE students rarely get access to.
Biology students will work through a range of techniques including coliform testing, agar plate preparation, Gram staining, PCR, and gel electrophoresis — the kind of practicals that separate confident students from uncertain ones on assessment day.
Chemistry students will prepare samples for and operate sophisticated analytical instruments including HPLC, FTIR, and NMR, learning how to read and interpret results like a working scientist.
Small group numbers mean you'll get real time on the equipment — not just watching someone else use it.
The VCE Lab Intensive is open to students currently enrolled in Units 1–4 Biology or Chemistry at a Casey Tech School partner secondary school. If you're not sure whether your school is a partner, check with your Science teacher.
Do I need to attend both days?
No — each day runs as a standalone program. Biology and Chemistry content runs concurrently across both days, so you can attend one or both depending on your subjects and availability.
Yes, completely free. There is no cost to attend.
I have more questions — who do I contact?
